Blogs are for educational purposes, an online space which learners use to keep a journal or reflective log of their learning. They may be incorporated into a learning platform or e portfolio. Through careful phrasing of key questions by the tutor, a blog can provide a powerful tool for recording achievement
A blog can include:
• the product of learning
• a factual account of what happened
• a reflection on the learning experience
• tutor comments
• peer comments
Most blog software allows users to choose who can read the blog. The options can include:
• only the writer
• the writer and tutor
• the writer, tutor and class
• anyone using the net
Putting this control in the hands of the learner is an important part of ensuring that they have the confidence to contribute and have a sense of ownership
It is also an excellent example of evidencing learning through RARPA and I highly recommend this method to art and craft tutors

I had planned to set up a blog on which to post the digital photographs and video clips, which evidenced the achievements my learners had accomplished during last term's course. However, I had left that till the course was finished and then realised that they weren't then able to post their comments on their ownam
nd their fellow learners' work. So I'm putting all that evidence on a CD and sending it in for moderation that way, since it is an accreditred course. But next term, I'll set up the blog in good time and have it ready for stage 2 of the course. This article has certtainly clarified things for me and I feel that I ought to be able to achieve those ends. Thankyou.
I think that this is a good set of instructions. I had wanted to set up a blog last term on which to post digital photographic and video evidence of learner achievements on an entry level glass painting course. however I hadn't set it up while the course was still running, which meant that my learners wouldn't have had access to it to post comments on their own or their peers work. I have therefore burned the evidence onto a CD, together with my tutor report. so I'm now planning to use this set of instructions to set up a blog in the next few days, to evidence this term's work - with the same group of students who are progressing onto a level one glass painting course.
I have found this (and another two personal blogs) easy to develop and actually quite good fun (when you get the time!) I will certainly use it with my students on appropriate courses!
